It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Prof. Sebastiano Tusa, regional minister of cultural heritage and Sicilian identity.
Prof. Tusa was expected to speak at the Parco on the 4th of April, as part of a conference in the Curia Iulia on the extraordinary discovery of the ships in the waters of the Aegadian Islands. Their discovery was the fruit of one of the numerous research projects conducted by Prof. Tusa in the course of his career, and was the first tangible result of the collaboration inaugurated several months ago in preparation for the exhibition ‘Carthage. The immortal myth’.
“It is with great pain that we bid farewell to Sebastiano Tusa”, spoke Parco director Alfonsina Russo, “the very model of an active and rigorous scholar, who dedicated the majority of his life to investigating that ‘sea that fascinates and corrupts’, the Mediterranean, making important contributions to the reconstruction of the cultures of the ancient world and the relationships that existed between them”.
All of the Parco’s staff offers their support and condolences to the bereaved family members, sharing in their grief as we say goodbye to the man, the archaeologist and the colleague.
