Notre Dame de Paris

The Parco archeologico del Colosseo and all of its staff express their immense sadness over the fire that has partially destroyed the Cathedral of Notre Dame, a symbol of culture and Christianity, and a UNESCO world heritage site where art, literature and theater have entwined over the course of centuries.

“It pains us to think”, said Alfonsina Russo, director of the Parco, “that the routine restoration activities that we specialists are called to tend to every day in the conservation of our immense cultural heritage can lead to incidents such as this.”

“Despite our using the most cutting-edge technologies to maintain our monuments,” continued Alfonsina Russo, “events such as this remind us of the unrepeatable nature of our cultural heritage and of its fragility. It is our duty to protect these assets, to ensure that they will remain available for the generations to come.”
