Work is to begin on ‘Anello’, artist Francesco Arena’s site-specific installation created specifically for the Parco archeologico del Colosseo. The project was selected from among the winners of the 5th edition of the Italian Council competition. In support of Italian creativity dedicated to the promotion of contemporary art around the world, the program is promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries of the Mibac.
“This is an important milestone,” said Alfonsina Russo, director of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, “an occasion in which the dialogue between archaeology and contemporary art invites us to reflect in new and unprecedented ways on questions of memory and time. Completion of the installation will also inaugurate the entry of a piece of contemporary art into the Parco’s artistic heritage. Francesco Arena’s installation will be located within the Barberini Vineyard, the Imperial age ‘artificial terrace’ located on the northeastern slope of the Palatine, overlooking the Arch of Constantine and the Colosseum, from which visitors can enjoy an extraordinary view of the valley of the Amphitheater”.
The project will benefit from the collaboration of the Italian institute of culture in Barcelona, which will aid in promoting the installation internationally.
