In celebration of the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, entry to the Paro archeologico del Colosseo is free of charge. The free entry day is part of the ministry’s #IoVadoAlMuseo initiative ensuring 20 days of free entry to all Italian monuments, museums, galleries, archaeological digs, parks and monumental gardens.
On this city-wide holiday the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, in collaboration with the Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural heritage, will unveil the Forum Pass — Discovering the Forums: an itinerary that crosses the entire archaeological area, with access either from the Capitoline area (Piazza della Madonna di Loreto, near Trajan’s Column), or from one of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo’s entrances: Largo Corrado Ricci, Via Sacra – Arch of Titus, via di San Gregorio and via del Tulliano, in front of the Mamertine Prison. The Roman Forum, cradle of western civilization, and the Imperial Forums, symbol of imperial power, will therefore be reunited, taking up once more the role of living public squares and not just museum spaces.
Entry to the Parco will also be free on the following days: Monday 23 September Dies natalis Augusti; Friday 4 October Day of peace and dialogue between members of different cultures and religions; Monday 4 November National Unity Day; Thursday 21 November World Philosophy Day; Wednesday 18 December International Migrants Day.
Visitors are reminded that the following areas of the Parco will be closed to the public during free entry days: SUPER ticket sites (the Palatine Museum, the Neronian Cryptoporticus, the house of Livia, the Loggia Mattei, the Domus Transitoria, Santa Maria Antiqua with the Oratory of the Forty Martyrs and Domitian’s Ramp, the Temple of Romulus), the spaces of the Roma Universalis exhibition, the permanent exhibition “Il Colosseo si racconta”.
