The new year has plenty in store at the Parco archeologico del Colosseo. The first event on the calendar is set for Tuesday, 7 January, for the inauguration of the new school year for the “Sapienza” University of Rome’s Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Architettonici e Paesaggistici: PArCo director Alfonsina Russo’s prolusion will be followed by the ideas competition awards ceremony, for which students of the Scuola were asked to design a new stage for events and summer concerts in the Basilica of Maxentius.
Following the resounding success of last month’s conference with Alessandro Michele, two events are scheduled this month for “Discussions about Fashion — EPHIMERA”: the first on Saturday, 11 January and the second on the 25th.
The conference series dedicated to the exhibition “Carthago. The immortal myth” is also picking up again with two important dates: on Saturday 18 January (an exception to the usual Carthago Tuesdays), Limes magazine director Lucio Caracciolo will delve into the topic of the Mediterranean, historically a space of interaction and confrontation between different societies, cultures and religions and now a magnet to peoples in flight; 28 January will be dedicated to a conference of studies on the Tophet, offering an occasion to analyze the real meaning and function of the Phoenician-Punic shrines built to house the tombs of children and animals.
We’d like to remind you that the Parco archeologico del Colosseo will be closed on 1 January, but that 5 January is a “Sundays at the museum” day with free entry for all.
