On 7 January 2020, in the beautiful location of the Roman Senate, to mark the inauguration of the new school year for the “Sapienza” University of Rome’s Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Architettonici e del Paesaggio (SSBAP), the Director of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo Alfonsina Russo will deliver a prolusion starting at 10:00, following an introduction by Director of the SSBAP Alessandro Viscogliosi.
In her prolusion, the director Alfonsina Russo will underline the importance of combining the conservation of archaeological sites with necessary instances of restoration but also development and therefore fruition to best restore monuments’ original meaning without altering the signs accrued over the passage of time. Ample space will then be given to the collaboration between the PArCo and the SSBAP regarding the excavations and restoration work carried out in several areas of the Palatine.
Following the director’s introduction, the ideas competition will be presented, reserved for SSBAP students. Competition participants were asked to design a stage for concerts and other summer events that can also be transformed into a visitor itinerary through the Basilica of Maxentius.
