In celebration of European Heritage Days 2019 – One two three…Art! Culture and entertainment, the Parco archaeologico del Colosseo presents a series of special events for kids and adults, in English too. Come experience history and archaeology in the heart of the city with our exclusive openings, guided tours, treasure hunts and special performances.

Parco archaeologists and education services staff will be on hand to show visitors special areas of the Parco normally off limits to the public.

Here are the events planned for Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd of September:

On Saturday morning the so-called Domus of Scaurus will be open to visitors, an important Late Republican aristocratic residence on the northern slopes of the Palatine that’s normally closed to the public.

On Sunday morning another special opening: the so-called Schola Praeconum, built on the hill facing the Circus Maximus and linked to the public games that were held there.

Saturday and Sunday afternoon will be almost entirely dedicated to the subject of games in the ancient world: on Saturday afternoon in the Roman Forum, guided tours of the Basilica Julia, which housed the civil law courts, will introduce adults and children alike to the so-called tabulae lusoriae, improvised games played while waiting for court proceedings. Along the southern slopes of the Palatine, our treasure hunt will provide kids with an unforgettable experience “in the footsteps of Romulus”, mythical founder of Rome.

On Saturday and Sunday afternoon in the Roman Forum, in the square in front of the Temple of Divus Julius, ArteStudio will present a dance theater performance.

And on the evening of 21 September, don’t miss the Arma dei Carabinieri music band concert at the Basilica of Maxentius.
