From Friday, July 20, 2018 the Parco archeologico del Colosseo will be offering the public a new way to discover its places, with evening guided tours entitled Sunset over the Palatine. The Goethe Walk.

The visits, scheduled for Friday, will take place on the southern slopes of the Palatine, recently reopened to the public. Lasting 90 minutes, they are available in Italian and English. Along the way we will illustrate the close relations between the archaeological remains and the natural setting, reviving the spirit that accompanied Johann Wolfgang von Goethe on his “Italian Journey”. During the visits you will discover the history and functions of the architecture we can see, as well as how it all appeared in Romantic times and it relationship with the Palatine’s extraordinary botanical heritage.

The walks will start from Via di San Gregorio and take in places of great beauty such as the Paedagogium, where the imperial slaves were taught, and the Scalae Caci, associated with the cult of the origins of the city. After skirting the slopes of the Palatine below the Domus Tiberiana, the last stage, before reaching the exit on Via della Consolazione, will lead to the Horrea Agrippiana.
