IN MARCH 2023 THE SUPER SITES WILL OPEN AT 10.30

Roman Forum-Palatine and Imperial Fora in a single itinerary. One ticket (€16) gives you access to the new route, which allows you to visit the archaeological heart of Rome in about two hours: the Roman Forum, the Imperial Fora and the Palatine.

Also included in the ticket is a visit to the SUPER sites, unique places in the world whose special visit allows you to get to the core of Roman art and civilisation through immersive technologies and fascinating virtual narrations. An itinerary through the Roman Forum and the Palatine, connected by the Domitian ramp, which will lead visitors to discover ancient painting from the Augustan age, with the House of Augustus (from Tuesday to Sunday), to the late ancient and early medieval age with the Temple of Romulus, Santa Maria Antiqua and the Oratory of the Forty Martyrs. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday it will also be possible to enter the Curia Iulia, the ancient seat of the Roman Senate.

Access to the SUPER sites is restricted, as they feature valuable paintings that could be affected by overcrowding.
Access to the SUPER sites will be from 9.30 am until 1 hour before closing time.

The passage from the Parco archeologico del Colosseo to the area of the Imperial Fora will be open every day from 9.00 am to 16.15 pm.

The entire route of the visit included in the Forum Pass ticket is barrier-free and will cross part of the Forum of Trajan, pass under Via dei Fori Imperiali through the cellars of the ancient dwellings of the Alessandrino neighborhood and, after crossing the entire length of the Forum of Caesar, near the Forum of Nerva, reach the Curia to enter the Roman Forum.

Reductions and free admission
Holders of the Membership Card have free access to the Imperial Forum area.
Holders of the MIC Card can access the archaeological area of the Imperial Fora free of charge only on the occasion of free educational initiatives organised by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina; however, they will be able to benefit from the RAP (Ridotto Amici PArCo) ticket concession at a cost of € 12.00 for admission with a ticket valid for 24 hours to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine and Imperial Fora.
VISIT DETAILS
The Roman Forum was the centre of public life in the city for more than a millennium, from the late 7th century BC until the 5th century AD. Over the course of time, various structures were built in this area at the foot of the Capitol: first the buildings for political, religious and commercial activities and then, during the 2nd century BC, the civil basilicas, intended to house judicial activities. By the end of the Republican Age (mid-1st century BC) the ancient Forum had already become insufficient to serve as the administrative and representative centre of the city.
Thus, with the need to renew the oldest administrative and judicial structures and to adapt them to the new dimension – physical and political – of the city of Rome, Julius Caesar ordered the construction of a new Forum, with a regular and orderly layout, which was named after him. This undertaking was imitated by four emperors: according to the chronological order of inauguration, the Forum of Caesar (46 BC), the Forum of Augustus (2 BC), the Temple of Peace (75 AD), the Transitional Forum, later called of Nerva (97 AD) and the Forum of Trajan (112 and 113 AD) were in fact created. At the same time as the latter, and again on Trajan’s initiative, the complex now known as the ‘Markets of Trajan’ was built, and the Forum of Caesar was restructured and enlarged.
The Palatine Hill preserves the remains of Iron Age settlements dating back to the earliest nucleus of the city of Rome. The hill was the site of important city cults, including that of the Magna Mater (Cybele) and, between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC, it became the residential quarter of the Roman aristocracy, with elegant dwellings featuring exceptional pictorial and floor decorations, such as those preserved in the House of the Griffins. Augustus symbolically chose the hill as the site of his residence, which consisted of several buildings, including the House of Livia. Later the hill became the site of the imperial palaces: the Domus Tiberiana, the Domus Transitoria, then the Domus Aurea, and finally the Domus Flavia, divided into a public and a private sector, known as the Domus Augustana. From the complex and partly overlapping floor plans, we can understand how the different residences were also connected by underground corridors, often richly decorated, of which the Neronian Cryptoporticus is one of the best preserved examples. The presence of the imperial palaces on the hill gave rise to a process of identification, so much so that the toponym ‘Palatium’ has become synonymous with residential buildings in modern languages.
The Fora were monumental porticoed squares, quadrangular or rectangular in shape, of varying size and orientation; the back side was almost always emphasised by the presence of a temple. Built with the enormous riches accumulated in wars, the Fora all had the function of self-celebration and self-representation of their patrons, expressed through rich decorative devices that legitimised and exalted the emperors. Some of them, moreover, showed an accentuated cultural function, ensured by the presence of libraries, schools and exhibitions of works of art. The five Roman forum squares – with their architectural scheme and sculptural decoration aimed at exalting the figure of the emperor and often made of precious marble – were a model to be exported and reproduced in the Roman provinces.

How many people can be in a group?
50 people, including guide. From 10 people the guide must use the whisper.
Is it possible to buy a combined ticket for a group?
It is not possible, only single tickets can be purchased.
For groups, we recommend booking single tickets all at the same time.
If there are more than 25 people in the group, it is possible to book tickets for two adjacent shifts (shifts start 5 minutes apart).
How do I book a free ticket?

Is it possible to enter with a small dog?
It is not possible. You can only enter with a dog if it is a pet-therapy dog or a dog accompanying you in case of a disability: in both cases, you will need to show appropriate documentation.
Is there free admission every first Sunday of the month?
Yes, tickets can be obtained, in order of arrival, at the ticket office in Piazza del Colosseo, located near the Temple of Venus and Rome.
Can I buy my ticket at the ticket office?
You can buy the ticket only online through the Opening times and Tickets page or through the App ParcoColosseo. The indications to download the App for free can be found on this page.
